The Gospel reading for Mass on World Youth Day challenges us to “repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God.” We often allow the world to tell us what things are worth and we foolishly try to measure our own worth according to the same standards. The Gospel reminds us that we are in this world, but we not of this world. As God’s own creation, we are truly Priceless. Our worth and our value come from being a child of God. How do we, in gratitude, return “to God what belongs to God”? How do we respond to Him? This theme challenges us to recognize our worth and to spend time examining what we are doing in our own lives to connect with the loving God who created us.
