The word "Fiat" comes from the Latin for "Let it be done." Pope Francis has chosen as the theme for World Youth Day 2019 "I am the servant of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word." (Lk 1:38) This text is Mary's response to the angel Gabriel's message that God has a life-altering plan for her. She responds bravely, confidently, and generously. She places her faith and, ultimately, her life, in God's hands. Pretty regularly in ministry, we ask young people to do the same: to "let it be done" in their lives, as God would have it be. We live in trying times, and for our young people, it is typically even more difficult than we can imagine to live for Christ. But through the example of Mary and the Saints, and, ultimately, with the grace of Christ, we are empowered and equipped to give our lives over to the Lord and the amazing plans he has for us!
